House Fire in Westlake

When are Fire Officials going realize that there are a large number of house fires in the Westlake Rd.(CR443) area? This becoming a little to common place in such a particular area. The last fire was 4-15-08. Search "i-dineout" for (house fire + westlake) and see what pops up from the files. Someone is setting fires or folks are setting their own fires for some reason to their own place. Bet the Westlake Fire Chief knows the stats in that area.

Here's another theory of why the fires are being set in Westlake: People are burning down their own homes and collecting insurance money so they can afford to buy GASOLINE!

Maybe they are burning down drug houses to hide the evidence of a lab???

This is not suprising at all since this county still have the good ole boy system in place. Look no further than the fire inspector for the county and how few charges much less convictions have been produced from the amoount of fires that are set in this county that are from unknown origins? This is and has been an issuse for at least 12 years that i know of and nothing has been done on this matter. The commissioners court is the place to look for something to change and persons in these positions to held accountable for respoding in a timely manner. To often the response is I will come by tomorrow instead of responding when the scene is preserved and in good shape instead of waiting till some time the next day and not knowing who has been on the scene and disturbing the evidence. The County Judge and Commossioners have needed to make a change for a long time and should be held accountable for the same old BS.

Female Guard Resigns at Liberty County Jail

The female guard that had sex with the inmate should be given the max that the law allows for punishment. If this woman was giving sex to her prisoners, there's no telling what kind of contraband she was sneaking in. Punish her Liberty County!

I'm glad the Sheriff's Department is is pursuing a case against the female guard. They were made aware of a problem and they took care of it the way the law says you're supposed to. The majority of jailers, just like deputies and officers, do a good job. But when one comes along that gives them all a bad name, they need to be rooted out and dealt with accordingly.

If the female deputy admitted to having sex with a male prisoner at the Liberty County Jail maybe she should be required to appear before a Lunacy Commission to determine what her mental status was at the time of the alleged crime/s and what it is now? Any deputy who is capable of doing something like that probably would not hesitate to bring Guns, Drugs or any other type of contraband into the institution.I also agree with the two previous comments posted on this subject.

Man Wanted for Killing Trooper Commits Suicide, Possible Accomplice Apprehended

Brandon Robertson was found in an abandoned barn in Linden,TX. DPS & County Officials had a stand off with Robertson and his girlfriend, Robertson turned the gun on himself and died of an self inflicted gun shot wound. The girlfriend was taken into custody and booked in the Cass County Jail. This poor Officer didn't even have a chance. There were pictures of his patrol unit and it appears he only had time to put his car in park and as he reached to unlatch his seatbelt he was shot several times. Just please pray for this family, and the lives of all the other officers that are in these type situations day to day.

I guess I might quit doing business with Brookshire Brothers. The sign out front today says,"celebrate Cinco de Mayo". Why would a red blooded American and surely not a Texan celebrate a Mexican holiday? Do the Mexican celebrate July 4th?

Good grief. Lot's of people around here celebrate Cinco de Mayo and we're not Mexicans, just plain ol' Texans. Look how many people in the U.S. celebrate St. Patrick's Day and they're not Irish. If you're looking for a reason not to do business with Brookshire Bros. then let it be because the young checkers and sackers are all too busy talking to each other & cutting up rather than focusing on the customer.

Cinco De Mayo is fun if you've ever been to visit Mexico, and it's no different picking on the Mexican Americans than picking on anyone about their RACE. I love Brookshire Brothers, they are CLEANER, have a better selection, and I know where every single thing is located in their store. If I were to stop using a store it would be Walmart, they put the small business man out of business, and right now they have that Atheist writers movie in your face on every single checkout. The Golden Compass is wrote by an Atheist, and in one of the series of books the children kill God so they can sin and do what they wish. in response to the statement about the Golden Compass... That has to be one of the most ignorant and small minded statements I've heard in a long while, but yet I'm not surprised at all coming from someone that lives in Liberty County. The Golden Compass is a movie, A FORM OF ENTERTAINMENT, and so is the book. Walmart has far more worse on their shelves anyway, just look around. Not everyone in this area is a christian, and to not respect others goes against your very beliefs, hypocrite. If you want to only see your god in a store, go to a christian book store, your close-minded bickering on a website will do no good, they make their money, they don't need you to tell them what to stock.

I saw the sign at Brookshire in Dayton, yesterday, but thanks to i-dineout, I knew the answer. It was not about a holiday, it was about the economy, stupid. If you read the article on i-dineout yesterday you would have read the article on the Hispanic's being the fastest growing minority in Texas. So Brookshire is just pandering to that ethnic group for more dollars, in their cash registers. In response to the post about Walmart and the Golden Compass: I shopped at Walmart last night and was faced with the display of the DVD of The Golden Compass. I am a Christian and was offended by the display of a movie that is anti-God. Research the author of the book this movie was based on. I politely told one of the asst. managers on duty that I was offended by the display. I plan to contact the store manager and district manager and let them know how I feel. Walmart does not mind taking my money which states: "In God We Trust," yet they are promoting this movie, and many are uninformed of its origin. As long as that movie is displayed at every check-out stand, Walmart will not get my money.

OMG Alien vrs Predator, they kill babys in that movie... should they take that off the shelf too? How about lighters and cigarettes since you dont like smokers? About the sign at Brookshire Bros, I am not A Hispanic nor am I related to any but I do have Hispanic Friends. To the poster that is whinnig about this sign, as Americans we celebrate many different Holidays, if you do not wish to celebrate this particular day then stay your butt at home. No, Mexicans do not celebrate July 4th even though they stream in by the millions as "guests" of our country. They have no love for the USA, make no mistake about it. The funny thing is, Cinco de Mayo is to celebrate a single battle where the Mexican army defeated some French troops. Think about that. French troops. Not sure I'd be crowing about that little victory every year on May 5, but whatever makes 'em feel better about themselves. . . The United States needs to strive to do what is good, what is right, and what honors the Lord. If, in hindight, we should have done differently, then we repent and try to do right the next time. DPS Trooper Shot, Killed During Traffic Stop

My heart goes out to the family of this Trooper who paid the ultimate price to protect the citizens. I will pray for his family and for a precious baby who has lost a DAD before he truly ever knew what kind of man he was. I guess my next question is does the person have a past criminal record. Please remember before making any ugly comments this family needs alot of support from everyone during their time of great loss.

This is a sad story and Trooper Burns wife and baby are in my prayers tonight. May God watch over them and keep them. I'm so sorry to read this. I hope they catch the terrible person who took this young mans life.

BREAKDOWN OF OIL PRICE: When we buy gasoline we are paying for more than just oil. Here is a breakdown of oil prices. Federal & state taxs= 19%. Distrbution & marketing= 4%. Refining costs & profits= 22%. This leaves actual crude oil price @ 55%. Everyone who has anything to do with oil gets a piece of the pie,including our government. The government does'nt want the oil price to go down. The government would rather get the 19% of $4.00 per/gal. gasoline than $1.50 per/gal. gasoline. These prices all revolve around the commodity markets and wall street.

FOOD PRICES: I hear LNVA(Lower Neches Valley Authority)is in the process of taking over Devers canal system because the Devers canal Co. does,nt have enough people farming rice to pay their operating expenses. The government has caused this due to paying farmers not to plant. I do not blame the farmer. If someone was giving me money not to plant a crop, I would not worry about planting anything either. Look at the diesel fuel prices the government has let get out of control. You can buy diesel fuel in Mexico for $2.00 per/gal. This $4.10 per/gal. price in the U.S. is caused by government fat cats in the commodity markets for profit. There is no shortage of oil. This is a cover up to run up the price. Other cover ups are, summer driving, refinery had to shut down, OPEC is having a meeting, ect.

McCain Is 'Fine' Keeping our Troops in Iraq for 100 Years

It's funny how these democrats can get things these mixed up. John McCain said we would stay in Iraq as long as it took to finish the job, even if it was 100 years. Now that is honesty. But what should we expect, look at her better half. And Obama only supports and listens to his preacher for 20 years but does not agree with him.

DNC Chairman Howard Dean doesn't need to exaggerate or distort John McCain's opinions on Iraq; and he does not need to act as if the United States has not benefited from stationing troops in different areas of the world. Instaed he needs to let the candidates showcase their superior ideas on Iraq; and he needs to get our two candidates from beating each other up. We do not need this man taking the front and center stage in this election. We need people like the Reverend Jeremiah Wright to sit quietly and let the candidates take the podiums around the country. We need President Clinton to listen to his wife. This is our race to lose. Let's not self-implode!

n response to your article about NBC and McCain remarks on 100 years of war. NBC is owned by General Electric, and they are the second largest corporation in the whole world. The Billionaires who own G. E. are backing Obama, because he voted just like they wanted him to vote as Senator of Illinois. The Chicago Senator voted for everything G. E. wanted and they have put a whole lot of money into getting him elected. G. E. does not care about Ayers, Wright, Soros, Farrahkan, Rezko, none of the dirty people Obama associates with. Making more money off of a candidate is all they do care about, they are no different than the Halliburton union of our President now. George Soros is another person who has thrown a big amount of money at Obama, and George Soros is a crazy Billionaire from Europe who works hard to abolish our Amendment Rights. He tries to have the Second Amendment abolished for years, and he has found a candidate who supports his way of thinking, and it's BHO. Soros is trying to have one money and one nation world wide, this is true, just like it says in Revelations. The New York Senator HRC voted against G.E. and they hate her. Most of our Big Media we listen to daily try to brain wash us into believing them, and they are owned by a handful of Billionaires who's only interest is making money, and more money. The Media in the United States has been picking your Presidents for you for years, they do this by using Communist ways and telling half truths or attacking candidates they are against. Please warn the public, you could be giving to a Presidential nominee you are not supporting if you give to the Charities calling your homes right now. There are many new Firman and Policeman charities calling my number every minute here, when you ask them what will this money go for some say "To help their cause", what cause????? I think the "CAUSE" is that they need to supply Obama with Millions in a short amount of time, I believe this to be true. Be careful who you donate to right now during this election year. Gov. Perry Seeks Relief From Skyrocketing Food Prices

I wonder why the Governor doesnt ask the government to quit paying farmers to let their land lay idle. Look at all the land that used to beplanted in rice until the government started paying farmers not to plant and to let the land lay idle. Now we import most of our rice while thousands of arces are laying idle. We neeed to let the free enterpise system work in agriculture just like it does in other industries. Lets do away with govenment subsidies for farmers.

CENTRAL APPRAISAL DISTRICT Did you know that increasing appraisal values are overcoming the property tax relief that we got for school tax. (#1) Appraisal District tax bill hikes well in excess of our pay checks. (#2)Property taxs double in past 10 years. up 124.14% (#3) Consumer price increase up 23.6% in the last 10 years (inflation increase) All this is not including some of the newly created districts that has been added to your tax bill, like drainage district,fire district,hospital district, fresh water district, ect. why is it that our local government isn't cutting the tax rate back as our property values increase? They are getting more money because of these property value increases. They want people to think think they are holding the tax rate down. "THINK ABOUT IT" Property owners need protection from this so called Central Appraisal District. SEE: texas tax relief to look at these figures.

Please remind people early voting has begun in Hardin on the bond issue. If this bond issue passes it will give our school board and administrators access to money by juggling somethings around and we can improve our athletic department and some other things many of us would really like to see.

I am totally against "bonds" or "juggling" so we can improve sports in Hardin. These are all code words for TAX INCREASES! Many of us are struggling out here to make a living and feed our family. I don't even like fundraisers or sponsorships that suck up money for what should be just something fun for our kids NOT SERIOUS COMPETITION that drains the community.

Excuse me Hardin ISD but the bond "to repair and upgared infrastructure" and the other bond to refinance both will free up money to do God knows what. Can we just avoid incurring further debt? We have a new school. Let's "pay as we go" rather than stretch the taxpayer out and commit us to this new bond indebtedness.

I agree with the person commenting on the EXACT use of any bond money or any other tax money. Our schools need to be hunkering down and paying for necessities and paying off debt. Times could be fixing to get tougher. I don't care where the money comes from we don't need a new sports field or new stands or anything like that in the middle of what could be the toughest times many of us have ever faced!

I hate to see people uninformed about issues that are very important to our community. This is what I have done some research on in reference to the Bond Issue. The money coming from the bonds will go to pay off a much needed Lease Purchase. This was done in the past because it is the only way the school could get the new much needed buildings. In fact in once instance (Intermediate School) we received several million dollars through a grant that we had to match. Well now we need to pay those debts off. There are several buildings that need new roofs on them, there is equipment needed in the cafeteria that the state mandates, however they don't fund. Technology is another place this money will go. And last but not least this will help free up some of the M & O that will help our teachers get a raise. Currently they are dead last on payment with the schools that are in their region. I believe 54th is the exact place. I didn't find any of this money to be going to the stands, athletic complex, etc... So please get the information correctly before you make inaccurate statements. Mr. Parker is doing what he believes is best for the school district and the community. He had a community group that helped him on this project, there were several meetings, and only a hand full of people showed up for the meetings. Usually no questions asked after his presentation. You taxes will be cheaper then they were two years ago even with this tax increase. Did you know that? Anyway, be positive, and yes I agree we need t bunker down during tuff times. So lets work together and quit trying to fight against, argue with, and cut-down every thing that everyone does. The people of Devers and Dayton sure stepped up and supported Mr. Parker while he was there and would again. Do the right thing for our kids, support your community, respectfully voice your opinions, and most of all if you have an idea, bring it up in the appropriate location. It is easy to hide behind a computer and type comments when you don't have to back them up. See you at the next school board meeting, or community meeting. Until then VOTE for the bond issue before the voters of HISD.

Woman Pleads Guilty to Shooting Her Husband Sentenced

OPEN SEASON ON HUSBANDS! I've seen it all now. A woman admitted in Judge Hight's courtroom today that she shot her husband three times while he was ASLEEP and Judge Hight gave her 10 years probation! This is incredible. She admitted that she had committed murder. She said she had been abused but there was no proof of that at all except her word. No calls to police, no bruises, no nothing. What is this world coming to. Looks like killin husbands is pretty much legal in Liberty County now. Judge Hight said to the people in the courtroom along with the grieving family of the dead victim that he didn't have to answer to anybody for the sentence that he handed down. I guess he forgot that he has to answer to the voters of Liberty County! We'll see when he's up for election next time.

Comment in regard to woman who received 10 years probation. I think her sentencing was a good call. NO ONE knows what she went through! The person who says it is open season for killing husbands, were you in the courtroom for the WHOLE TRIAL? If you were beaten, abused, threatened, your children abused, almost murdered by someone, wouldn't you do what you felt was safest for your family? So all I have to say is, don't point fingers and judge unless you were in the same room! Judge Hight is an EXECELLENT Judge and I would vote to re-elect him anyday.

robation? For murder? WTH? Was he beating her while he was sleeping? Leaving wasn't a viable option? If I were the judge, I would've asked her why she just didn't pack up and leave? The first wife did it so why couldn't she?

Too bad Clara Harris' case didn't go before Judge Hight. I'm glad we have a judge who is willing to send the message that abusive partners won't be tolerated in this county. Judge Hight, you certainly have my vote!

I don't know about the other poster but I WAS in the courtroom the whole day. I'm in law enforcement but I didn't work on this case. I agree that the woman deserved something less than 99 years but probation... give me a break. If I had been in her shoes, I certainly would have done the safest thing for my family. I would have called the sheriff's office at least one time. She NEVER called. I would have left. She didn't. I would have got me a divorce lawyer. She never did. I wouldn't have planned out a murder like she did. She admitted that she waited until he was asleep. She went to get the gun which she had bought. She loaded it. Then she shoots a sleeping man 3 times in the head and the back. That's cold blooded murder. She's just lucky that she ran into Judge Hight as a judge. I wonder how many billion/trillion goes to all government employees, including representatives, senators, judges, President and Vice President, etc.? I did not see that figure anywhere, but I might have overlooked it. I just figure an awful lot of our tax money goes to pay Federal government employees from the top all the way to the janitors who clean the office buildings and mow the well manicured lawns. I have written to this site many times and though I am a conservative Allen alway prints my opinions as I write them and I respect that. I have written "that other site" that claims to be a consevative site a couple of times and they have changed my words to make it sound like I support there views. What kind of person does that. LCSO Deputy Crashes on North Main

I wonder if the deputy will recieve a citation for failure to maintain safe distance or control of motor vehicle, like anyone else would in the same situation.

Wow. While going the speed limit turning on to Beaumont St. I slid over rocks, left marks from where my tires went sideways and ended up in a ditch. I revieved a ticket for speeding and failure to control vehicle. Yet this cop nearly rams someone in the rear (failure to maintain safe distance) and supposedly only going 50 mph and ends up skidding a greater distance than should have with full braking (speeding). I wonder- Was there any citations giving to the officer?

Traffic Laws DO NOT apply to law enforcement PERIOD. There should have been a couple of citations issued to him as well (Failure to control speed for one.)

No where in this story does it say that the officer was ibn route to an emergency or on a call. Like most Sheriff dept. officers around here he was probaly on his way home in that car on tax payers gas. Pay attention to what was written and stop assuming he did no wrong.I also wonder who will have to pay for the damages done to the Lazy H, yes thats right, the tax payers.

Everybody should know by now that the cops are NEVER at fault and ALWAYS do the right thing. That's how it is and always will be. The next time this happens, whoever does it will get all the same tickets that they always give. And the next time a cop wrecks a car, we will all pay for it with our tax dollars. It's not going to change.

To the person who said laws don't apply to police officers. So what you mean is they don't apply in Liberty Co. Police are allowed to exceed the speed limit but that dosen't allow them to drive unsafely. They are still required to maintain the safety of others around them and to be extra observant of their surroundings. Most departments have stipulations on speed and safety.

If the Deputy was on his way to your house, even though it was not a "real" emergency, you would be griping about how long it took to come. A Police Officer can never do anything right, until you need one, then they are wonderful to have around. The Deputy will have more eyes looking at his accident than any private citizen. The Sheriff, Chief Deputy and Patrol Captain know that the citizens buy those cars and they do not come easily from Commissioner's Court.

Look People how about this the next time that your mother, daughter, Son Brother Sister or whom ever is literally getting beat to death and you need a Policeman lets make sure he goes 65 or so and not help you. what ya'll do not know is that the officer was going to a phyiscal disturbance and he was going to save lives. For one, "NO" Brake Lights the Police have the RIGHT to Speed just as Firemen and so do ambulances and first Responders so next time that you complain, Remember the next time you call 911 the time delay to save your lives.

Traffic laws do apply to an officer unless they are running emergency traffic. If the other driver had working brake lights the officer pprobably would have received a citation.

Duh!!! This is sad. Clearly this officer failed to control speed, Why? Maybe he was on a cell phone or somethig who knows but him, he is still not above the law. Rearending is just your fault if you did it. Officer own up to your mistake and quite having double standards. The story never said your were on a call, just that your did not watch where you were going.

First off I nornally take up for the good guys on here but from the feed back and additional information from the original story it still looks like this maybe the officers fault. Some questions still remain though. Was the officer responding with lights and siren? If not, he should have been if he was responding to a true emergency. Even if he was running both he is trained to watch for people making odd choices when they are approached from behind with someone running emergency traffic. Some people panic and do not pull over to the side of the road. It sure sounds like he was driving at an unsafe speed, even if he was responding to a call. Anyone that is responding does no one any good if they cause or in an accident, this only delays response is all. I understand the tax payers being unset seeing a double standard when something like this happens.

I have known Johnny most of my life and he was a hard working, honest man that would give you the shirt off his back. Hull-Daisetta speed trap --- Does anyone know how to find out just how much revenue HD pulls in to their little community from the speed trap coming out of town towards Raywood??? You know that very little fine line where the speed changes fron 35 mph to 45 mph. Or maybe the 45 mph sign should be moved a little farther out of town???? Or a big caution light that says CAUTION TRICKY SPEED TRAP!!!

It could see it being a speed trap if the speed limit signs were hidden by brush or something. But if the signs are visible, then there is no excuse for not doing what the signs tell ya to do. If you're whining because you got a ticket for speeding through there, then "waaaaaah". You can't use the argument that you were only going 5 or 10 mph over the limit. The signs don't say 35-ish. 35 means 35. 45 means 45.

i am glad that this is being done . a good friend of mine , lost her husband just last night from a motorcycle accident . he bought the motorcycle to save money on gas . he was on his way to work when a car rearended him causing him to wreck on a freeway in houston.people need to be more aware .

My cousin goes to a school in Liberty County that has filed for some kind of waiver and does not have to make up the bad weather day we took and that will result in her being off for Memorial Day and our family retreat to the lake. My school took the same day off and we are being told our school will have to make the same day up on Memorial Day. Could someone please tell me why we can't get a waiver and they can? the weather was the same all over the county that day!

You might tell the administrator of your school to inquire about the school you go to. About the make-up day question all I know is my parents are not going to make me go to school on Memorial Day. wqe always meet friends from South Texas at Corpus and they will keep that longstanding date and I will be with them. Yea!

Memorial Day commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country and any school that uses it as a "make-up" day should be ashamed. As a vet I hope each school raises Old Glory and takes the day off and teaches their students why it is a day off.

School children and school teachers have too many days off already. Go to school while you can and quit complaining!

Personally I think the kids being IN SCHOOL on Memorial Day could be a benefit if the school uses the day as a learning opportunity.

We are out for Martin Luther Day and some other non sense days..so why not out a day that ACTUALLY means something!!!
