SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR DAISETTA RESIDENTS

DAISETTA, May 9, 2008 - This morning, Corporal Hugh Bishop announced that Daisetta residents ONLY, would be given an opportunity to view the sinkhole that has brought much attention to their community this week. This is being done in order to calm fears of some in the community as to the severity of this event. The sinkhole who some refer to as “Sinkhole De Mayo,” can be viewed today, Friday, May 9, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Residents are requested to assemble in front of the Hull Daisetta High School Auditorium on Main Street where groups of 25 will be escorted by Law Enforcement Officers to a safe area near the sinkhole for viewing. This opportunity is being given now because the viewing area is only now considered safe enough for the public and to discourage private citizens from sneaking into the area.

Corporal Bishop stated that starting today, extra law enforcement officers would be on duty to guard the area. Anyone caught near the sinkhole will be charged with Trespassing and Interfering with the Duties of a Public Servant. Those wishing to view the sinkhole are encouraged to wear your walking shoes and bring your own bottled water.  Be prepared to walk about one mile.

Grilling Time

Profile America — Friday, May 9th. Winter is a rapidly fading memory, and many of us will be spending more time on our decks, balconies and backyards. Some have already set up their charcoal or gas grills. In fact, food is very much in the spotlight in May. This is not only National Barbecue Month, but hamburgers, salsa and salads also have their own celebration months. Outdoor grilling became popular in the 1920s. The first charcoal briquets were sold by Henry Ford, made from scrap wood left over from the body framing of his Model Ts. About one-in-three adults across the U.S. enjoys grilling food outside — contributing to the 62 pounds of beef we each consume every year, along with 74 pounds of poultry and 47 pounds of pork.
