Jury Finds Harrelson Guilty on All Four Counts

LIBERTY, September 30, 2003 - Today a Liberty County Jury found County Treasurer Janet Harrelson guilty on all four counts brought in a trial that lasted a little more than one week.

A Grand Jury in Liberty County indicted Janet Harrelson on March 12, 2003 for -

Tampering With Governmental Record - alleged to have been committed on or about November 8, 2002

Tampering With Governmental Record - alleged to have been committed on or about November 12, 2002

Abuse Of Official Capacity – alleged to have been committed on or about November 13, 2002

Forgery – alleged to have been committed on or about November 12, 2002

Sentencing in this case will be done by Judge David Walker the presiding judge at the trial and has been scheduled for October 22, 2003.

People in the courtroom report that Ms. Harrelson was emotional and some members of the jury appeared to question the motives and involvement of others in this case.

The decision concerning who would sentence Ms. Harrelson was made at the beginning of the trial.
