Jefferson County Texas, A Judicial Hell Hole According to ATRA

BEAUMONT, December 15, 2004 – Jefferson County Texas has received the dubious distinction of being a Judicial Hell Hole according to the American Tort Reform Association.

Jefferson County was ranked number five out of ten such places around the nation according to ATRA.

The report by the ATRA released today, sites asbestos cases, mold cases and the latest craze in civil litigation Fen-Phen cases as evidence of frivolous law suits clogging the courtrooms.

According to the report even plaintiffs attorneys even question the large sums being handed out by Beaumont juries. In a recent case cited in the report a Beaumont jury awarded a woman in a Fen-Phen case 1.36 million dollars. Her own attorney, thinking the award was too large, filed a motion to reduce the amount awarded his own client by more than one half.
