Beaumont Business Man's Truck Found in Liberty County

DAYTON, November 30, 2004 - According to investigators Daniel Kohlhofer's truck was located Monday in a rural area of Liberty County off Wolf Island road near the Harris County line. Kohlhofer was found dead Sunday in an area of land just north of Hwy 87 in Caplen on the Bolivar Peninsula.

Investigators believe Kohlhofer may have been shot, although the exact cause of death is pending completion of an autopsy by the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

Witnesses had seen Kohlhofer's truck on the side of the highway Sunday with a person standing beside it.

A person driving in the 600 block of State Highway 87 in Caplen around 10:45 Sunday morning noticed a body lying in the weeds just north of the roadway. Kohlhofer is a Crystal Beach business owner.
