Chambers Liberty Counties Navigation District Begins Economic Development Effort

LIBERTY, November 10, 2004 - The Chambers Liberty Counties Navigation District held its regular board meeting Wednesday afternoon in Liberty going through a lengthy agenda.

Of particular interest was the board’s decision to open a annex office in Liberty in an office building on Trinity Street.

The board also took action to retain Laura Wilson whose job it will be to spearhead the Navigation Districts economic development activities in Liberty and Chambers Counties.

Wilson is a native of Liberty County and is currently employed by the Orange County Economic Development group.

Wilson stated, “I’m hearing the board and they are hungry for economic activity and that’s what I hope to bring.”

Wilson will be coming here to start up the two County Economic Development group leading the Navigation District’s economic development efforts.

Five years ago Wilson started the Dayton Economic Development Corporation and has since worked as Vice President for Partnership for Southeast Texas, a nine county economic development group based in Beaumont. About a year ago Wilson went to work for the Orange County economic development group and is currently employed there.

We asked Wilson if she sees her obvious familiarity with Liberty and Chambers County an asset? “Yes, and I’m looking forward to is knowing that all the economic development allies I’ve left with the Greater Houston Partnership and the Houston Galveston Area Council (to work in Beaumont) I can now work with again.”

Wilson also points out the fact that Liberty and Chambers Counties are in the areas covered by both these organizations as well as the 9 county economic development group from East Texas she worked for and she will be able to work with all of them to accomplish her mission.
