Car Strikes Gas Meter Causing Leak AMES, November 27, 2004 - Around 11:40 PM on Friday a maroon Oldsmobile Delta 88 eastbound on US 90 left the roadway to the right near the top of the Ames hill and collided with a gas meter in front of the Trahan residence in the 400 Block of West Main in Ames. The fence in front of the residence sustained heavy damage.
A major gas leak was created that halted traffic on US 90 and temporally stopped railroad traffic. Strong winds out of the south spread that gas northward across Beaumont Ave, which halted traffic on that main road. The City of Liberty, Hull Daisetta and Haz Mat firefighters responded to the scene and turned off the gas stopping the leak.
The vehicle was driven by James Davenport age 42 of Hull, TX. He was transported to Liberty Dayton Community Hospital by Liberty County EMS for treatment of his injuries that were not thought to be serious. The investigation into this accident continues. Alcohol may have been a factor in this accident. Give us your Feedback about this story! |
