Car Burns after One-Vehicle Accident VIDEO STORY RAYWOOD, November 12, 2004 - On Friday night around 8:20 PM the Liberty County Sheriffs Department was notified of a one-vehicle accident on FM 2830 North about 2 miles north of FM 160. The vehicle burst into flames after the accident and luckily both the driver and injured passenger had time to exit the vehicle without suffering burns.
According to DPS Corporal Gary Wright a red Dodge Neon driven by Zachary Smallwood age 18 of Raywood was traveling north on FM 2930 in a left hand turn when the driver left the roadway onto the unimproved shoulder, attempted correction and slid across the roadway colliding sideways with a tree on the west side of the highway.
The passenger side of the vehicle collided with the tree injuring the front seat passenger, John Scott Jurecka age 17 of Hull. Liberty County EMS responded to the scene and prepared Jurecka for transport to Houston by Life Flight 4, which flew him to Hermann Hospital suffering injuries to his eye and shoulder from a landing zone on FM 2830, near the accident scene. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening. It was the Hardin Volunteer Fire Department that responded extinguishing the burning vehicle and manning the landing zone for Life Flight. According to Corporal Wright the driver was not injured and although speed was a factor in this accident any citations are a matter of continuing investigation by the Department of Public Safety.
