Suspects Charged in Connection to Murder of Cleveland Man LIBERTY, November 22, 2004 - Contrary to previous reports, there are only two persons currently in custody in connection with the murder of a Cleveland area man reported yesterday. An autopsy was completed late on Monday and the positive identity of the victim has not yet been released pending autopsy results.
According to Sgt. Investigator Chip Fairchild, Jose Shofa Monreal, age 30 of Cleveland in currently in the Liberty County Jail charged with Murder. His brother, 22-year-old Manuel Monreal also of Cleveland remains in jail on charges of Tampering with Evidence. Additional charges are expected. Both are being held in connection with the death of a Cleveland man found buried on a wooded lot near an abandoned house off Gulf Road South of Cleveland. Investigators worked throughout the weekend investigating two crime scenes. One where the man was thought to be have been killed and the scene in the photo below where the mans body had been buried for about one month on a wooded lot near an abandoned house.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that the man was killed as a result of an argument which got out of hand.
