SUV Crashes Trying to Avoid Dog on FM 1008 TARKINGTON, December 19, 2004 On Sunday afternoon around 12:20 PM the Tarkington Volunteer Fire Department, Liberty County EMS and Cleveland EMS responded to a one vehicle, roll-over accident on FM 1008 about 4 miles south of SH 321.
A Dark Green Toyota Land Cruiser SUV, driven by David Leonard Richardson age 26 of Dayton, was traveling south on FM 1008 when it attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid a large dog in the roadway. The vehicle struck and killed the dog, then went into a skid leaving the roadway to the left and rolled over twice ejecting the driver who was not wearing a seat belt according to DPS Trooper Randy Peck.
Mr. Richardson was transported by Life Flight Air Ambulance to Houstons Hermann Hospital from a landing zone on FM 1008 manned by the Tarkington Volunteer Fire Department. His condition is not known. The front seat passenger, Gidgett Ann Guilotte and the back right passenger, Michael Stolich were transported to Cleveland Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance. The left rear passenger Joseph Stolich refused transport to the hospital by ambulance and was transported by private vehicle as a precaution.
