Welding Truck Leaves the Road and Crashes into Waiting Car DAYTON, December 14, 2004 - About 8:45 PM on Tuesday a welding truck driven by Brian Andrew Newton of Baytown was traveling south on FM 1409 when it suffered steering difficulties, left the roadway to the right, struck the culvert at Brown Road and collided with a white Lincoln stopped at the stop sign on Brown Road at FM 1409. The Lincoln was driven by Charlotte Catherine Sheffield age 55 of Dayton who was preparing to turn on to FM 1409. Liberty County EMS and the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department responded quickly to the scene. Luckily no one was injured, however, the fire department managed a fuel spill from the welding machine that was thrown from the truck landing in the ditch and assisted in traffic control while the accident was being investigated.
The welding truck suffered heavy damage to the both the front and rear of the vehicle. According Sgt. John Coleman of the Dayton Police Department Mr. Newton received citations for Unsafe Speed and for Failure to Show Proof of Financial Responsibility.
