Election Filing Season Coming to a Close

LIBERTY, December 30, 2005 - According to Liberty County Democratic Chairperson, Nancy Archer, Monday, January 2, 2006 is the last day to file for office for the upcoming March Primary for either the Democratic or Republican ticket. The Democratic office will be open all day Friday to accept any late filings. The office will also be open Monday morning at 8:30 AM at which time several surprise candidates are expected to file.

According to Archer, Precinct chairs are also expected to file for the primary.

The following are important dates and deadlines for candidates and others.  Please take a moment and review the items below.

January 4th

The last day a candidate may with draw from general primary election.

Last day candidates may file declaration of write- in candidacy for county or precinct chair

January 6th

First day to submit application for ballot by mail for March 7th general primary

January 12th

The Democrats will draw for a place on the ballot on January 12, 2006 in the County Court at Law Courtroom in the Courthouse at 5:30. All candidates as well as precinct chairs are required to attend.
