Jorgenson Announces Candidacy for County Commissioner Pct. 2

ROMAYOR, December 5, 2005 - My name is James “Gunny” Jorgenson and I am running for Liberty County Commissioner Pct. 2. I was born on April 1, 1947 in Houston, Texas and grew up in a quiet little town on the Houston Ship Channel called Galena Park.

I graduated from Galena Park High School in 1965. In 1970, I left a job with the Hughes Tool Co. To join the United States Marine Corps. I spent 20 years in Marine Corps Aviation, retiring in 1990 and moving back to the Houston area to settle down after a most enjoyable service thru out the United States and the World. I was looking for a small quiet community like I knew from my childhood days, where everyone knew and helped their neighbors. That is when I discovered and fell in love with Liberty County. I moved to a small place in the Romayor area in 1996 and have enjoyed every minute of my time here.

My reason for seeking the position of County Commissioner is that for quite some time now, our Elected Public Servants seem to have forgotten who is their actual employer. They work for Liberty County, which represents every hardworking, taxpaying citizen in the county and not some special interest group.

Every citizen has a reasonable expectation that County Government will act in everyone’s best interest. The issues presented in Commissioners Court is of concern to all citizens and should be made available to the public in a timely manner and should be free from any misleading information. One such recent issue was the Hospital District, which was quietly placed on a ballot to be decided during a School board Election. The boundaries for the original District were unclear, and the information from Public Officials was misleading and inaccurate. It was only after persistent inquiries to the Public Officials, that it was discovered that the District boundary did not cover a small portion of the County, but took in most of the County, excluding the Cleveland and Tarrkington school districts. After this information was made known to the citizens, the first District was defeated at the ballot box.

I will work to ensure that all issues presented to Commissioners Court be addressed on time and in an accurate manner, and that Commissioners Court will convene at a reasonable time that would allow all hardworking citizens the opportunity to attend and participate.

In just a few short days, I will be retiring from ExxonMobil and will be able to devote 100% of my time to making Liberty County Government a government for and by the Citizens of Liberty County.

Thank you for your support,
James “Gunny” Jorgenson
