OPEC Ministers Voting Against Cuts, Gas Prices Should Remain the Same

HOUSTON, December 15, 2006 – The price for a gallon of gas in Texas has remained relatively flat since the end of last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

The statewide average price is $2.191 a gallon, about the same as last week. The highest average on this week’s survey is in the Austin – San Marcos area at $2.226 a gallon – down two cents. Houston has the lowest average at $2.15 a gallon – two-tenths of a penny higher than last week’s average.

“With crude oil currently trading near $62 a barrel and OPEC’s ministers voting against any immediate production cuts, motorists should continue to see prices near their current levels for the next few weeks of the year,” said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “However the Cartel has left the door open for production cuts in February.”

The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.291 – down less than a penny.
