Holiday Travelers to See Slightly Higher Pump Prices
HOUSTON, December 21, 2006 – Holiday travelers will see slightly higher pump prices in Texas, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
The average retail price of regular, self-serve gasoline in Texas is $2.208, up nearly two cents.
Amarillo has the most expensive gasoline, averaging $2.243 per gallon, which is almost two cents higher than last week. Houston and El Paso share the spotlight for the cheapest gas at $2.175 per gallon.
“More than 86 percent of holiday travelers are planning on driving to their destination during the Christmas-New Year’s season,” said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Retail gas prices typically edge up slightly during the holiday season because demand for gasoline goes up around that time.”
The national average posted about a four cents increase to $2.291 a gallon.
