Major Accident on North Main at Sand Dune Road VIDEO in QuickTime LIBERTY, December 19, 2006 - A major accident, around midday, occurred on North Main Street at Sand Dune Road in Liberty.
Two City of Liberty Ambulances transported the injured to area hospitals. According to City of Liberty Police Officer Ricky Pearson a yellow 1999 Chevy traveling North on North Main was making a left turn onto Sand Dune Road when it was struck in the rear by a Green Ford F-150 pickup.
The impact was severe and injured three children in the Chevy. One year old, Krystal Padilla was transported by Liberty EMS to Houston’s Hermann Hospital by ground due to the fact that Life Flight was unable to fly because of weather conditions.
Edgar Padilla age 7 and Veronica Padilla age 10 were transported to Liberty Dayton Community Hospital for treatment as a precaution. The driver of the 1999 Chevy Graciela Hernandez age 29 of Liberty, was baby-sitting the children and was not injured. The Ford Pickup was driven by Lola Beth Collins age 54 of Rye who refused medical attention at the scene. Graciela Hernandez received a citation for No Driver’s License and No Liability Insurance. Lola Beth Collins received a citation for Failure to Control Speed. Traffic was moving slowly around the accident scene alternating north then south on North Main while this accident was investigated.
