Driver Seriously Injured in Accident on SH 146 VIDEO in QuickTime HARDIN, December 10, 2006 - The Hardin Volunteer Fire Department and Liberty County EMS responded to a major accident on SH 146 at FM 2830, north of Liberty around 6:45 PM on Tuesday. According to a motorist on FM 2830 waiting to turn onto SH 146, the Red 1993 Oldsmobile traveling north on SH 146 was moving over to the right at a high rate of speed. The motorist put his vehicle in reverse and quickly backed up clearing the way for the oncoming Olds.
The Oldsmobile traveled through the intersection and into the ditch on the east side of SH 146 just north of FM 2830, struck a tree and was badly damaged. First arriving medical personnel found the driver of the vehicle sitting the passenger seat leading investigators to believe he was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver was identified as Carlton Reed Porter age 39 of Hardin. Liberty County EMS transported him to the helipad at the Hardin City Hall where Life Flight landed and transported him to Houston’s Hermann Hospital for treatment. Little is know as his condition at the time of this report. The Hull Daisetta Volunteer Fire Department secured and manned the landing zone for Life Flight at the Hardin Helipad. According to DPS Trooper John Hutzler, the continuing investigation into the accident will look into the possibility of intoxication as a factor.
