Man Struck by SUV Crossing US 90 VIDEO in QuickTime DAYTON, December 7, 2006 – An unusual series of circumstances resulted in a young man being struck by an SUV on US 90 at South Prairie Street in Dayton around 7:45 PM on Thursday.
According to witnesses a maroon late model Ford Taurus traveling east on US 90 left the roadway to the right at the intersection of South Prairie Street across from the Dollar Store and struck a utility pole. The force of the collision severed the pole and plunged the eastern part of Dayton into darkness as electric service was interrupted.
Joseph Allen Raylook age 16 of Dayton saw the accident and attempted to cross US 90 from north to south on foot to render aid to the accident victims in the Taurus Sedan. While crossing the inside, eastbound lane of the highway he was struck by a silver Toyota 4-Runner, driven by Angela Brown Tanner age 47 of Liberty. According to witnesses, Raylook was knocked into the air by the collision. Liberty County EMS responded to the scene and transported the two women in the Ford Taurus and Joseph Raylook to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown for treatment of various injuries. The slow speed of the Toyota SUV helped to keep Raylook’s injuries from being more serious.
