12 Year Old Boy Shot Friday Morning DAYTON, December 22, 2006 – Three boys were at a residence on CR 6881 in the Blue Stem Subdivision, about six miles north of Dayton, after a hunting trip Friday morning when one of the boys was shot twice with a 22 caliber semi-automatic rifle in the knee and thigh. The shooting took place around 10:43 AM and was reported to the Liberty County Sheriff's Department by 911. First officers on the scene discovered a 12 year old male had been shot in the left leg and in the right leg. Statements at the scene indicate that one of the boys accidentally shot 12 year old Denton Hagan while rapid firing a gun. The boys were going to do some shooting in the yard of the home when the incident occurred. Two of the boys were 12 years old and one was 15 years old. Liberty County EMS responded to the scene transporting the injured young man to a landing zone at the Highway 321 Volunteer Fire Department where he was transferred to the care of Life Flight and flown to Houston’s Hermann Hospital for treatment. The young man was alert and talking at the time of his transport. Sgt. Investigator Chris Dryer of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident. At the present time the incident is being investigated as an accident shooting.
