Man Being Strangled by Snake Reported to LCSO

WESTLAKE, December 7, 2006 – Four patrol vehicles and an ambulance descended on a residence in the 300 block of CR 4284 in the Woodway Subdivision off FM 1409 shortly before noon on Thursday.

The resident at the home had called to report to Sheriff’s Department dispatchers that there was an unconscious man in a tree in his yard being strangled by a large python snake.

The man living in the home who reported the incident was identified as Robert Kofron.

Sheriff’s Deputies, some carrying assault weapons, responding to the home and were not able to see the man or the snake that Kofron claimed was there.

According to Sgt. Investigator Pete Vella, Kofron was the only person who could see the man in the tree with the snake.  Vella further stated that it was thought the man was under the influence of something.

Kofron was taken into custody on charges of Public Intoxication and transported to the Liberty County Jail for detoxification and evaluation.
