Police Chase Ends in Treetop Terrace VIDEO in QuickTime

LIBERTY, December 13, 2006 – The peace and quite of the Treetop Terrace Subdivision in Liberty was interrupted around 1:30 PM when a vehicle involved in a law enforcement pursuit rolled over and crashed on Linden Lane just west of Layl’s Drive.

According to Liberty County Sheriff Greg Arthur, his department received a report of a suspicious vehicle at the Van Dorn residence on CR 2002 in Hardin shortly before 12:00 noon today. The caller reported three suspicious men, one of which was approaching the caller’s home. The caller locked herself inside her home and notified authorities.

A description of the vehicle was broadcast and about 30 minutes latter the vehicle was spotted by law enforcement on US 90. The vehicle began to flee with LCSO Investigator Chris Dryer in pursuit.

The driver of the late model SUV bailed out of the vehicle near US 90 and the SH 146 Bypass in Liberty. One of the passengers in the vehicle then got behind the wheel and continued to flee. Captain Chip Fairchild fired his weapon attempting to shoot out a tire, to disable the vehicle and bring the pursuit to an end. His attempt was unsuccessful.

The pursuit continued south on Layl’s Drive into Treetop Terrace where the fleeing SUV attempted a right turn onto Linden Street, lost control, rolled over and crashed.

The original driver of the vehicle identified as Courtney Darnell Jones age 22 of Liberty was apprehended shortly after he bailed out of the vehicle near the Bypass.

According to Sheriff Arthur a significant amount of a substance thought to be cocaine was found in the vehicle.

The two passengers identified as Joseph Quinn Jackson age 22 of Raywood and Johnny Owen Stevens age 18 of Liberty, were transported by City of Liberty Ambulance to Liberty Dayton Community Hospital in stable condition.

All three of the suspects in this incident are black males.

Stevens, Jones and Jackson were all charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a 2nd Degree Felony. Jackson was additionally charged with Evading Arrest and Jones was additionally charged with Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest and Attempting to take a Weapon from an Officer.
