Elderly Man Escapes Injury in One Car Crash DAYTON, December 26, 2006 – Elgin Reeves Wilhoite age 73 of Dayton was traveling south on SH 321 approaching old Cleveland Road when his Chevy S-10 pickup left the roadway to the right.
The vehicle traveled through the ditch, collided with a culvert and began rolling over, end to end. The vehicle came to rest right side up missing its’ under carriage but Wilhoite was trapped inside his pickup.
The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident scene and used the “Jaws of Life” to get Wilhoite out of this badly damaged vehicle. According to Office Chad Addington of the Dayton Police Department, Wilhoite refused transport by ambulance to the hospital, but was going to go by private vehicle as a precaution. Wilhoite’s lack of serious injury was attributed to the fact he was wearing a seat belt. The accident occurred shortly after 11:00 AM on Tuesday and remains under investigation. At press time no citations have been issued.
