Woman Pleads Guilty to Shooting Her Husband Sentenced

LIBERTY, April 24, 2008 – Today 75th District Court Judge, Rusty Hight sentenced Amanda Rodriguez to 10 years probation Deferred Adjudication for the murder of her husband, Rico Rodriguez of Cleveland.

Amanda Rodriguez pled guilty to murder for shooing her husband three times, killing him, as he slept in bed early one morning.

The murder occurred on July 6, 2005 at the couple’s residence in the Pebble Creek Subdivision off FM 1725 outside of Cleveland, TX.

According to records, Amanda Rodriguez purchased a .380 Semi-automatic pistol on June 27, 2005 and used the weapon to kill her husband on July 6, 2005, only a few days latter. Investigation showed that the first time the weapon had been used was to kill Rico Rodriquez.

Rico and Amanda had moved from Houston about two years before the shooting to their home outside Cleveland. The couple had three small children.

Amanda Rodriguez testified that she had been the victim of abuse at the hands of her husband. Rico’s former wife also testified that she had been abused by him and that she had thought of killing him on more than one occasion, but, that she had decided to leave, divorce him and go out of state to get away from him.

Obviously the abuse these women had suffered was a factor in the Judge’s sentencing.
