Traffic Accident on US 90 Raywood RAYWOOD, April 22, 2008 – Tuesday afternoon a traffic accident occurred on US 90 just east of Raywood in a construction zone that made it difficult for responders and other personnel to get to the accident scene.
The construction zone of US 90 extended from FM 2830 on the west to about 2 miles east of Raywood. Traffic was limited to alternating eastbound and westbound traffic in a single lane, as the highway was being resurface.
Responding DPS Troopers and Ambulance from Liberty ran directly into the path of oncoming westbound traffic in the construction zone slowing response to the accident.
According to DPS Trooper Jamie Neault, a silver Buick Lucerne driven by Billie Harold Cauthorn age 81 of Liberty failed to control speed and rear-ended a black SUV slowing to a stop in the construction zone.
The driver of SUV was Donald James Thibodeaux age 65 of Liberty. The driver of the Buick, Billie Cauthorn was transported by Liberty County EMS to Liberty Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty suffering from injuries not thought to be serious. According to Trooper Neault Cauthorn will receive a citation for failure to control speed.
