Hope Makes Progress TEXAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, April 20, 2008 – On Sunday Hope Neault weighed in at 3lbs 5oz, which is 1510 grams, and is 15 and 1/2 inches long. Hope is 10 weeks and 5 days old today at 3:05pm. She would have been 35 weeks and 6 days in her mother if not being born premature.
Today and the past few days Hope has done very well with the C-Pap nasal breathing machine. She has continued to perform very well. The “pounder” has been breathing on her own for 5 days now. It was explained to us that if she could do well in the first 2-3 days of pulling the tube, she wouldn’t have to be put back on the respirator. Now that she has done so well they are considering putting her on a nasal oxygen flow machine. The difference between the two is that the oxygen flow does not have pressure, it simply flows oxygen, where the C-Pap gives constant pressure. Hope has done so well, that for the first time there is talk around the Hospital that Hope may come home earlier than expected. They have always told us to expect her to be there until at least the original due date which was May 18th. But with Hope’s two major surgeries and the Chronic Lung Disease, they began to prepare us for a long stay at Texas Children’s Hospital, like 6-8 months; but now that she has practically removed herself from the ventilator, the story is very different. They said if Hope continues to improve in this manner than she may be home around mid May, which is around her original due date.
