Early Morning Fire at Jarrito’s Mexican Restaurant

DAISETTA, March 16, 2008 - According Hull Daisetta Fire Fighters a passerby going to work around 5:15 AM on Sunday noticed what he thought was a dumpster fire on the south side of the Jarrito’s Mexican Restaurant on Main Street in Daisetta across from the High School.

911 was notified and Officer Russell Pierce of the Daisetta Police Department was dispatched to the scene.

According to Pierce some of what he saw upon arrival look suspicious. First there was a potted plant near the front entrance that was broken and lying near the front door. And, instead of the dumpster being on fire, there were two tires near the south wall of the building fully engulfed in flames.

The tires managed to catch the south wall of the building on fire that in turn, set the restrooms inside the building on the south exterior wall on fire.

The Hull Daisetta Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire and fans were used to evacuate smoke from the building. The restrooms were heavily damaged by fire and the remainder of the building suffered some smoke damage, according to firefighters.

Officer Pierce called for an arson investigator to come to the scene to investigate the suspicious origins of this fire.
