DPS Troopers Make Meth BustDAYTON, April 11, 2008 – DPS Trooper Jamie Neault observed a 1999 Jeep Cherokee make an unsafe lane change not using a turn signal just before 6:00 PM Wednesday on US 90 near FM 1413 west of Dayton.
Trooper Neault stopped the vehicle and determine the driver, Eduin Herrera, age 18 of Houston did not have a driver’s license.
During discussions with Herrera, Trooper Neault became suspicious because Herrera could not remember simple information about himself. Trooper Neault, assisted by Trooper Willoughby, obtained writer permission to search the vehicle and found a zip lock bag concealed under the rear passenger seat containing an off white substance thought to be methamphetamine. According to Trooper Neault, the bag contained about 1 lb. of methamphetamine with a street value of nearly $30,000 dollars. Herrera was taken into custody charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a First Degree Felony, Penalty Group I, not less that 10 years or more than 99 years to life. Herrera was arrested for Theft by the Houston Police Department, a State Jail Felony, in February of last year. He pled guilty to a lesser charge and was convicted. Herrera was transported to the Liberty County Jail and DEA Officials were notified.
