Short Pursuit Ends on Cos Street

LIBERTY, May 5, 2008 - City of Liberty Police Officers Josh Cummins and Aaron Venegas arrested a Liberty resident for Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle around 10:00 PM on Monday.

According to Officer Cummins, the black pickup driven by Brian Lee Mitchell age 31 of Liberty was observed spinning its’ tires as it left the shopping center on North Main near the Choi Mart. Cummins activated his lights and followed the speeding truck south on Main Street to Cos where the vehicle made a hard right turn.

The driver stopped the truck in front of the Willoughby Insurance Agency near the intersection of Cos and Travis Streets, got out of the truck and fled on foot north behind the buildings facing Travis Street toward Webster.

Officer Aaron Venegas met Mitchell at Webster Street where he turned, ran south and ducked behind a house on west side of Travis Street.

Mitchell was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Liberty County Jail.

Mitchell protested that he was just walking his dog and became violent confined to the back of the patrol car attempting to kick the windows out. Officers had to subdue Mitchell to prevent damage to public property.

Mitchell lives on Cos Street near where his vehicle came to a stop.
