Dayton Animal Control Officer Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash

DAYTON, March 26, 2008 - Today the City of Dayton Animal Control Officer, Charles Roberts, age 60 of Dayton, was involved in a major accident on Waco Street between Glendale and Sawmill Road that demolished his Ford Truck with a canine unit and sent him to Hermann Hospital by Life Flight.

According to Sgt. Doug O’Quinn of the Dayton Police Department, the accident occurred after 8:00 AM this morning when Roberts parked his Canine Truck on the right side of Waco Street. A southbound 18 Wheeler did not notice the truck and struck it in the rear pushing it through the ditch and into a field. The Canine Unit was destroyed.

The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department set up a temporary landing zone on Waco Street where Life Flight landed and flew Roberts to Houston’s Hermann Hospital in stable condition suffering from a head injury.

According to O’Quinn, the driver of the 18 Wheeler operated by Triangle Trucking, Ricky Lynn Buchanan of Beaumont was issued a citation for Failure to Control Speed to Avoid an Accident.

Robert’s is said to be in good condition at the hospital.
