Accident Shuts Down FM 1409

DAYTON, April 1, 2008 - FM 1409 was closed for about one hour late Tuesday afternoon due to a two-vehicle collision that occurred shortly after 6:00 PM.

The accident occurred near CR 451 south of Dayton and sent one elderly gentleman to the hospital by ambulance.

According to DPS Trooper Boyd Lamb, who investigated the accident, a white Ford F 250 pickup was traveling north on FM 1409 and was slowing down to make a left hand turn into a private drive. A red Mercury Marquis was approaching behind the pickup and attempted to pass to the left and collided with the rear of the pickup.

The pickup was driven by John Allison Vauter age 38 of Dayton and the Mercury was driven by Noland Gean Bailey age 30 of Baytown.

It was the front seat passenger, Roland Bailey age 62 who was transported by Liberty County EMS to the hospital in stable condition.

According to Trooper Lamb, Noland Bailey received a citation for Failure to Control Speed.
