Two Seriously Injured in Tuesday Evening Crash TARKINGTON, April 2, 2008 - At approximately 8:15PM, Tarkington and North Liberty County firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle accident on FM 787 near CR 2192 involving one of their own. Tarkington VFD Captain Russell Reed was travelling east on FM 787 when, according to witness reports, a green passenger car veered into his lane. Reed’s Ford pickup, which was towing a trailer with another vehicle on it, struck the car in the passenger-side rear, causing severe damage.
Reed’s truck ended up in the trees on the south side of FM 787 about 150 feet from the point of impact. The force of the accident tore the bumper from the truck, causing the trailer to continue down the road for another 150 feet.
Two of the occupants of the passenger car were ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. Ambulances from City of Cleveland EMS, San Jacinto County’s Legacy EMS, and Montgomery County were called to attend to the injured, assisted by Tarkington and North Liberty County firefighters. All three occupants of the car were flown to a Houston-area trauma center from a landing zone set up at FM 787 and FM 223 by TVFD and NLCVFD. Two of the four occupants of Reed’s vehicle were taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center as a precaution, but were later released. Give us your Feedback about this story! |
